Letha Wilson
Letha Wilson is a mixed media artist who was born in Hawaii, raised in Greeley, Colorado and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Her influences include the landscape of the American West and land artists of the 1960s and 1970s. Wilson often combines large-scale landscape photographs with metal and concrete, challenging the two-dimensional nature of traditional photography. The juxtaposition of manmade elements and natural subject matter additionally draws attention to the relationship between architecture and nature.
Wilson earned her BFA from Syracuse University and an MFA from Hunter College. Residencies include The MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Madison, Maine, The Yaddo Foundation in New York, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska and Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, CA.
Recent solo exhibitions were organized by GRIMM in Amsterdam and New York, NY; the Center for Contemporary Art and Culture in Portland, OR; the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, MA, and Galerie Christophe Gaillard in Paris. In 2018, Wilson was recognized by Artsy on their list of 'These 20 Female Artists Are Pushing Sculpture Forward.'
