Lisha Bai

Lisha Bai is a New York city-based artist who focuses on sculpture and installation. Most recently, her work has featured cast sand as a primary material. Bai has created a nuanced oeuvre by investigating the substance’s shifting qualities by exposing it to different conditions and experimental treatments.

Bai received her MFA, Painting/Printmaking from Yale University, and her BFA in Painting, from Washington University in St. Louis. The artist has also previously taught at the Pratt Institute. She has been the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships, including the S.J. Wallace Truman Fund Award, the Vermont Studio Center Full Fellowship, the Ruth Hindman Foundation Scholar Award, the Jeffrey Frank Wacks Scholarship, the Hazel Huntsinger Memorial Prize in Painting, and the L. Sorger Award in CORE.

Bai’s work has been shown in multiple solo and group exhibitions at institutions such as the Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery, the California College of the Arts Gallery, the Fortnight Institute, the Halsey Mckay Gallery, Carroll/Fletcher, and The People’s Garden.


Bai’s featured works in The Space(s) Between are 10.11.19 (L), 2019, cast sand, and 10.04.15 (R), 2015, cast sand. Both panels 48 X 30 X 2 inches.
